Evening Chronicle photographer Bill Payne dies at the age of 84
Just found this sad news on the Chronicle website.
Throughout the 80’s I was working for Photogenic Studios where I shot much of the PR Photography, I would often bump into all the local press photographers including Bill at our clients openings and presentations etc.
The Chronicle Photographers to this day are always a friendly bunch very helpful and a pleasure to work alongside. Though I’ve not seen him in decades I’m sure Bill will be greatly missed and our thoughts at Allinson’s Photography are with his family and friends at this time.
After a life working in newspapers, the award-winning Chronicle photographer has died peacefully in hospital at the age of 84.
Bill, a grandfather-of-four, started working as a messenger for the Chronicle when he was just 14 in 1942.
In a 47-year career with the newspaper he moved to the dark room before picking up a camera and becoming one of our team of photographers covering some of the biggest events in Tyneside.
